Age 93, of Pine City, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Philomena was born in Phillipsburg, NJ on October 16, 1920 a daughter of Thomas and Margaret Morello Allessandroni. She is predeceased by her husband Edward Heppe Sr. in 1989 and her siblings John, Phillip, Guerino and Maria Alexander and Rose Abrams. Philomena is survived by her children, Kathleen & Joe Szerszen and Ed Heppe of Pine City, NY; grandchildren, Mathew Szerszen and Lisa Hemly of Elmira, Kristin & Brian Hoyer of Oneonta, NY; great grandchildren, Lauren, Sidney, Dillon Szerszen and Lincoln Hoyer; sisters in-law, Sylvia Alexander, Betty DeBlasio and Mary (Donald) Shank. Philomena worked in her earlier years at the Westinghouse Electric Corp. She was an avid NY Yankees fan. Her favorite times were spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Phil was also a great cook and baker. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Family and friends are invited to Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway Elmira on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Committal prayers will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Philomena's memory may be directed to the Pine City Volunteer Fire Department 1453 Pennsylvania Ave. Pine City, NY 14871, St. Mary's Renovation Fund 224 Franklin St. Elmira, NY 14904 or the Food Bank of the Southern Tier 945 County Route 64 Elmira, NY 14903.
