Daniel D. "Dan" Griffin of Grove Springs Road in Hammondsport passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 14, 2014. Dan was born in Corning on February 7, 1960, to David and Shirley Kniffin Griffin. He graduated from Corning-Painted Post West High School and attended Alfred University graduating from their Building Trades Program. From an early age, Dan's desire was to build houses and subsequently built numerous projects in the Corning, Elmira and Finger Lakes Region, predominantly on Keuka and Seneca Lakes. Dan also known as "Dan-O" by those close to him, had a very kind heart, willing to help anyone. His tender smile, great laugh, and his unique sense of humor will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. From 1984 through 1990, Dan lived in Newport Beach, CA where he worked as a licensed contractor on multiple custom homes in and around the Orange County area. His heart was always at Keuka Lake where he returned to be with his family and develop his quiet home and woodworking shop on Grove Springs Road. Dan was predeceased by his father David Griffin and is survived by his mother, Shirley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Michelle and Michael Quattrini of Corning, Stephany and Morris Skenderian of Laguna Beach, CA; a nephew, Richard Miller of Denver, CO; uncle, Richard Kniffin of Corning; aunts, Jane Goltry of Bath and Rosalie and her husband Lee Wilson, of Tucson, AZ; many beloved cousins and close friends. Dan also leaves behind three cats who were constant companions at his home work shop. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Gabriel's Church on Sheather Street in Hammondsport, NY, on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
