Leroy E. Wilson Obituary
Wilson, Leroy E.

Leroy E. Wilson, age 87 of Painted Post, NY, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Leroy was born on August 15, 1926 in Canisteo, NY. He was the son of the late Charles and Bessie (Knight) Wilson. Leroy married the love of his life, Helen Rodman on July 28, 1956 in Dansville. They were married 56 years until her passing on July 12, 2012. Leroy was an outgoing individual who served in many local organizations over the years. He was the past Commander of the Corning VFW Post 524 and past Exalted Ruler of the Corning Elks Lodge 1071. He also served on several chairmanships within both organizations. One of his proudest achievements was his involvement in the deer hide program through the Elks. This program helped raise over $100,000 for local veterans. Leroy was also a call-in fireman for the City of Corning for many years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bowler. This was of course when he was not tinkering on something. He had a creative way of fixing what seemed to be unfixable items. He remained active in his later years, even participating in the senior golden games. He is survived by his three children: Paul Wilson of Bath, Cecilia Wilson of Corning, Timothy (Ann) Wilson of Painted Post; grandchildren: Victoria Wilson of Painted Post, Patrick Wilson of Painted Post; sisters: Mary Ella (John) Kernan of Canisteo; sisters-in-law: Martha Rodman of Boaz, Al, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved Freckles. Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 222 Dodge Ave., Corning at 9:30am on Monday, August 11, 2014. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved Helen in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.
