Obituary Condolences

Johnson, Mary Jane (McClary)

Age 95 of Cayuta died December 10, 2013. Loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was born January 10, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from Alfred University she also attended Oneonta State University and NYU. She started her teaching career in a one room school house and continued her career in the Long Island New York school system until 1973 when she and her husband Norman retired to her family property in Cayuta; enjoying life there and on golf courses in Florida. She is survived by her three children: Norman Johnson of Clifton, NJ; Frances (Joseph) Dannelley of Ithaca and Robert (Anne Marie) Johnson of Cayuta. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Frances McClary; and her husband of 63 years, Norman Joseph Johnson. Mary enjoyed playing the piano and singing; knitting and sewing; recording her family history; and spending time with her family. Her strong sense of family was exhibited in books that she made for each of her children and grandchildren with copies of old family photographs and noted genealogy. Sunday dinners were a ritual of love. The family wishes to thank all those who provided support and sympathy during Mary's final days. There will be no calling hours. A burial Mass will be held on Friday, December 13th at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's of the Lake, Watkins Glen. Following Mass she will be buried next to her husband Norman in the Cayuta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Food Bank of the Southern Tier, 945 County Road 64, Elmira, NY 14903. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Vedder and Scott Funeral Home.
