Kathleen Spence Wendt

1937 - 2017

EASTON - Kathleen "Kathy" Spence Wendt died peacefully in Candle Light Cove Assisted Living Community, Easton, Md., on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at the age of 80.
Kathleen was born on March 20, 1937, in Easton, Md., to William James Spence and Emma Naber Spence. She graduated from Easton High School in 1955. She married Hans Otto Wendt, a master Volkswagen technician and welder in 1961.
During their 51 years of marriage, the couple welcomed two children into their home: Karen and Susan. Kathleen retired in 1999 after working 18 years as a teller for Farmers Bank (f/k/a Union Trust and Signet Bank).
Kathleen enjoyed baking and found joy in being a devoted wife and mother. She was an active and dedicated member of the Easton Church of God, where she often volunteered her time and talent assisting the ladies auxiliary and the treasurer.
Kathleen is survived by her daughters: Karen (J. Christian) Mezzatesta of Newark, Del.; Susan Wendt of Easton, Md.; grandson, Michael Wendt of College Park, Md.; siblings: Edith (Donald) Roe of Preston, Md.; Richard (Henrietta) Spence of Easton, Md.; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hans Wendt; parents, William and Emma Spence; siblings: J. Albert (Avalee) Spence; Hertha Spence; Ellen (Carmelo) Sauca; William (Shirley) Spence Jr.; half siblings: Margaret Spence; Dorothy (Claude) Moore; Woodrow (Miriam) Spence; and J. Morris Spence.
Visitation will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 200 S. Harrison St., Easton, Md., on Friday, Aug. 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral will be held at Easton Church of God, 1009 N. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601, on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. Burial will be immediately following at St. Paul's Lutheran Evangelical Church cemetery, 12095 Blades Road, Cordova, Md.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kathleen's life. Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Easton Church of God, 1009 N. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601 or a charity of your choice.
