Joseph Travis Tucker Sr. Joseph Travis Tucker Sr., 87, died on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at home in Nanjemoy, Maryland.

He was born on December 13, 1924, in Washington, D.C., to the late Hubert Quinton and Mary Elizabeth Carpenter Tucker. Mr. Tucker was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and graduated from Central High School in 1943. He joined the United States Marine Corp on active duty from 1943 until 1946 and left with the rank of Sergeant. After serving in the military he attended University of Maryland from 1946 until 1950 where he received his B.S. degree.

Mr. Tucker played for the Maryland Terrapins Football team as Quarterback during the 1946 until 1950 seasons and participated in the 1948 and 1950 Gator Bowls.

Following his military and football careers, he joined the FBI in 1951. Later that decade, he left to open his own beer distributorship in La Plata, Maryland, which he ran until 1962. He then spent four years in Colorado before returning to Virginia where he was self employed in the real estate industry until his retirement. He spent his final years living on the banks of the Potomac River in Nanjemoy, Maryland. Mr. Tucker had a passion for the outdoors and was able to hunt throughout the United States as well as multiple trips around the world. His lifelong love of gardening, fishing and hunting, especially bird hunting, will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his best friend and companion, Gloria Hampton of Nanjemoy, Maryland; four children, Joseph Travis Tucker Jr. of Redford, Texas, Wayne Douglas Tucker of Bronxville, New York, Virginia Tucker Sledjeski of The Plains, Virginia, and Jill Tucker Hampel of Stafford, Virginia; five grandchildren, Gavin Tucker of Redford, Texas, Jordan and Molly Hampel of Stafford, Virginia, and Zachary and Logan Tucker of Bronxville, New York; and three siblings, Dr. Hubert Quinton Tucker of Orange, Virginia, William Dinwiddie Tucker of Arlington, Virginia, and Mary Frances Fannon of Castleton, Virginia. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Virginia. A private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
