Benjamin Jolliffe Obituary

Benjamin F. "Bill" Jolliffe, 84, of Amissville, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Culpeper Regional Hospital, Culpeper. Bill was born March 6, 1922 in Culpeper County to Richard Edwin Jolliffe and Pearl Rosella Settle Jolliffe. Bill served his country with honor in the United States Army during World War II. He survived being in the first wave of the Normandy Beach D-Day Invasion and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Bill was employed and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He enjoyed farming and farmed throughout his retirement. Bill loved animals. Most of all, he loved his thoroughbred race horses and lived for fox hunting. Bill was a member of Gourdvine Baptist Church in Rixeyville. His sister, Mary Lou J. Smith of Amissville; his brother, Fred D. Jolliffe of Richmond; and many nieces and nephews survive Bill. His parents; his wife, Gladys Newman Jolliffe; four brothers; and three sisters preceded Bill in death. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 12, in the Clore-English Funeral Home Chapel, 11190 James Monroe Hwy., Culpeper. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens, Jeffersonton, with military honors provided by VFW Post 2524 Honor Guard and American Legion Post 330 Honor Guard both of Culpeper. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Clore-English Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent via e-mail to [email protected].
