Joseph QUAINTANCE Obituary

Published by Found and Sons Funeral Chapels & Cremation Service - Culpeper on Apr. 7, 2009.
JOSEPH H. QUAINTANCE, JR.

"Joe" Quaintance, a life-long resident of Culpeper County, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009. He was born on October 22, 1923 to Joseph Holtzman Quaintance and Genevieve H. Quaintance. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-five years, Eva Combs Quaintance, and their oldest daughter, Judy C. Quaintance.

Survivors include his two daughters: Janet L. Quaintance and Gina M. Quaintance; four grandchildren: Philip Joseph Mills, Erin R. Murray, Haylee M. Murray, and Nichole Krum, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters: Julia Monaco, of Culpeper, and Margaret Clark, of Brewsters, Massachusetts. Ethel Frazier remains a true friend of the Quaintance family after three generations.

Joe was a veteran of World War II working as a master electrician in the Norfolk Ship Yard on Essex and North Carolina Battleship classes. During the latter part of the war, Joe was chosen for his mechanical aptitude to develop, install, and operate radar and microwave systems on the east coast.

Following the war, Joe worked as an electrical contractor in Pennsylvania, and Virginia, designing and constructing multiple Drive-In theatres. He also installed the surround sound system in the State Pitts Theatre in Culpeper. Joe retired about fifteen years ago; however he remained active by designing and operating private water systems within the county.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery with Hunter Chapman officiating. Military honors will be provided by Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and V.F.W. Post #2524.
