Henry Clifton Sutherland Henry Clifton Sutherland, age 90, of Culpeper, VA, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Culpeper Regional Hospital. Born October 19, 1920, to William Arthur Sutherland and Mabel Booze Sutherland in Thurmond, WV, Henry spent his career with the U.S. Government and the U.S. Army.

A 1942 VMI graduate, Henry served in the U.S. Army armored divisions, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in 1980; he was also a vestry member of St. Thomas Trinity Episcopal Church, Washington, VA.

Surviving Henry is his wife of sixty-three years, Martha T. Sutherland, daughter; Ann Sutherland Rice, son; James Clifton Sutherland, grandson; Robert Hughes Sutherland, and brother; James Clarence Sutherland.

A memorial service will be held in Henry's honor Friday, November 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 115 N. East St., Culpeper, VA 22701, with Father Michael Gray officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be offered by visiting clore-english.com. The family has entrusted Clore-English Funeral Home with these arrangements

Martha and Family, I am so sorry to hear about Daddy Sutherland. He was a wonderful man whom I loved. Martha I send you extra love and hugs. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
It has been some time since we have spoken; I hope you remember me. I think fondly of you all and the times we spent together. I wish you all serenity during this difficult time. I lost my Mom and big brother in recent years, and Dad almost a year ago. It is a very difficult experience to endure. Sincerely, Janice Cadwallader Maddox
