James Lewis Obituary
After a union of marriage to Loretta Carpenter, two children were born. He joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and served as a deacon and choir member. He loved God and his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He had a kind and willing heart to help anyone. He ministered to us all in songs from his heart.
James leaves to cherish his memory his wife Loretta of 35 years, a daughter Tameka (Paul) Porter and son Jamaine Lewis, his grandchildren Aliyah Lewis, De'Avis Porter and Jaedon Lewis, who lovingly called him Poppy or Pa-Pa, two sisters, Pamela (James) Washington and Debra Lewis and one brother, Jeffrey Lewis, all of Madison, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond & Rebecca Carpenter of Madison, five sister-in-laws, Karen (Arnold) Smith, Charlotte (Ralph) Carpenter, Cheryl (Rex Arthur) Greene, Gail Williams and Ruth Campbell, all of Madison, four brother-in-laws, Gregory (Edna) Carpenter, Laverne Carpenter, Edward Williams and Euguene Williams and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Rock Hall Baptist Church in Wolftown, Va. A viewing will be held at W.C. Thompson Funeral Home Chapel from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday October 6, 2010 and from 12:00 p.m. until time of service on Thursday.
W.C. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Loretta, I am so sorry for your lost, but I know that you are holding on to God's unchanging hands. You have lived a lifetime with James and you will forever have those memories to treasure. James is now home. Although we call our earthly dwelling home, none of us are meant to stay here. We are all just passing through, making the most of our time and our talents to the glory of God.
Give thanks for the time that you've had with James -- the laughter, the tears, the love. As you think of James with joy in your heart and a smile on your face, continue to know that God is good all the time and all the time God is good. Even when we don't understand why, God is still good, and He is still on the throne.
May the peace of God guard you and the God of peace be with you and comfort you.
