Ruth E. Giangrande Ruth E. Giangrande, 89, died on December 4, 2010, at Jackson House Assisted Living Home, Boston, Virginia. She was born January 3, 1921, in Exeter, Maine to William Staples and Eva Tupper Staples. Ruth graduated from Washburn High School in Washburn, ME, class of 1938; packed parachutes during WWII in Presque Isle, ME, at a defense facility where she met and married Anthony Giangrande February 14, 1943. As a Navy wife and homemaker, she moved many times, until the family relocated in Williamsburg, VA, where she was an active volunteer with the area SPCA for many years and a Brownie troop leader.

After her husband's retirement from Civil Service at Fort Eustis, VA, they moved to Madison County, VA, where Ruth enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady for the Culpeper Memorial Hospital. As an active member of the Episcopal Church her entire life, she served on the Altar Guild, Girl's Friendly Society, EWC, was a member of Bruton Parrish Episcopal Church in Williamsburg, VA, and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Culpeper, VA.

Ruth is survived by daughters; Stefanie Giangrande, Diane Stallings and her husband Curtis of Newport News, VA, and Gilda Hay of Culpeper, VA, granddaughter; Leslie hay of Richmond, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, her husband of sixty-three years, Anthony, her sisters; Beatrice Rakes and Lois Jardine, brother; William Staples, and son-in-law; William Hay, III, precede Ruth in death.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers at the Jackson House Assisted Living Home for their kindness and excellent care shown to Ruth.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 115 N. East Street, Culpeper, VA, with Father Michael Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Fork Burial Grounds, 16461 Oak Shade Road, Rixeyville, VA 22737.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SPCA of Northern Virginia, P.O. Box 100220, Arlington, VA 22210-3220 or the Humane Society of Culpeper, P.O. Box 1224, Culpeper, VA 22701.

Jill, Leslie, Stefanie, Dee, and Curt - We are so sorry to hear of Ms. Giangrande's death. She had a good long life and certainly made a difference in the lives of many others. We have you all in our thoughts and prayers. May God's love and fond memories of Ruth bring comfort.
