Harold Roth, 89, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at his home.
His memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at St. James Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Ralph Morris officiating. Inurnment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Harold's name be given in care of the church or to the Aging Office of Western Nebraska Scottsbluff Nutrition Program. Online condolences may be left and memorial candles may be lit at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com. Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff is in charge of arrangements.
Harold was born Nov. 17, 1923 in Laurel, Mont. to John and Elizabeth (Ray) Roth. A month later the family relocated to Scottsbluff. He received his education at rural Minatare schools. On Nov. 24, 1946, he married Irene Meisner at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff. Harold farmed all his life at Minatare, Bayard, Scottsbluff and Gering Valley specifically from 1956 – 1988. He and Irene retired in August 1988 and relocated to Scottsbluff.
Harold served as an Elder for 32 years at St. James Lutheran Church. He and Irene enjoyed Dutch Hop dancing. He also played Santa Claus several years at Gering Valley School. Harold was particularly fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughters, Susan Green of Scottsbluff and Myrna (Robert) Johnson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; son, Ted (Ronda) Roth of Gering; grandchildren, Paul (Julie) Green of Apple Valley, Calif., David Green of Scottsbluff, Whitney Roth attending Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas, and Holley Roth attending the University of Nebraska in Omaha; great-grandchildren, Katerina and Izaak Green of Apple Valley, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Elsie Walker, Esther Meisner, Ilene Meisner and Janice Meisner; brothers-in-law, Herb Meisner and Roger (Julia) Meisner
His parents; wife Irene; brothers, John and Henry Roth; sisters, Lydia Roth, Frieda Knaub and Lillian Klein; brothers-in-law, Art Walker, Max Meisner, Robert Meisner and Ted Meisner; and sister-in-law, Shirley Meisner preceded Harold in death.
