Milt was born Jan. 8, 1941 in Scottsbluff, to George and Viola (Rozmarin) West. He attended Bryant grade school, and Sunflower School where he graduated with the class of 1959. At the age of 18, he attended Colorado Barber College in Denver, and worked there for a time before returning to Nebraska. Milt worked for a few years in Mitchell before returning to Scottsbluff. He served as a barber in the United States Army from 1963 until 1965. Milt returned to Scottsbluff, and on Feb. 10, 1968, he married Karen Wilson, the true love of his life, at Torrington, Wyo. He has owned and operated Milt's Barber Shop, a downtown Scottsbluff institution for many years and worked until his death. He enjoyed his customers and going to work each day. Milt never planned on fully retiring because he feared he would miss all of his customers, whom he considered as friends.
He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff, the Scottsbluff Elks Lodge #1367 and the Monument Iris Society.
Milt loved supporting Scottsbluff High School sporting activities and loved going to Husker games. He also followed his grand-children's sporting events and was their biggest fan. He and Karen also enjoyed traveling in their convertible, and had just returned from a trip to the West coast.
Survivors include his wife Karen of Scottsbluff; son, Cullen of Lincoln; daughter, Jennifer Schuller also of Lincoln; step-daughter, Tamara (Mike) Leis of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Brittany Leis of Westminster, Colo., Jordan Leis of Scottsbluff and Megan and Madison Schuller and Riley and Carter West, all of Lincoln. He is also survived by his brother, Pat (Wanda) West of Bridgeport and sister Connie (Bud) Boston of LaQuinta, Calif.
His parents and a brother Mike West preceded Milt in death.

Sorry to hear of Milt's passing. He was a couple of grades ahead of me at Sunflower. He was always a nice upper classman. I liked his humor. Life goes fast. Let's all make heaven at any cost. It will be worth it all. Harold Pedersen Hobe Sound, Florida

My heart is heavy today as i think about the loss of a good person and friend. Milt was a true example of a quality person. From telling stories about Sunflower or talking about the huskers or bragging about his kids and grandiose or even taking care of the wandering cat… Milt was very unique, sincere, and caring. He was honest and upfront with everyone he met. Society was better by people like Milt. He was loved, admired, and now sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go to your family. I'm so glad I got to know such a great person as Milt West. Regards. Paul Edens

Mrs. West and family, I just heard about Milt's passing. He was a good man with a great sense of humor. I stopped by to see him a couple of years ago while I was in town. We knew him for years. He cut my hair as a teenager and I am 57 now. I am saddened to hear of his passing. God bless you and your family and may he watch over and comfort you at this time of tragedy.

I just heard of Milt's passing this morning from my brother Gary. The place I visited when in Scottsbluff was Milt's barber shop. He was a joy to be around and talk to. He had a great sense of humor and was willing to share that with everyone. Milt will be greatly missed and the community will miss a great person. To his family, he will be missed but know that he touched many lives while here.
