Harold Hoops Obituary

Harold P. Hoops of Livingston, N.J., passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. He was 88 years old. There will be a visitation at Bradley, Haeberle and Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave., Union, N.J., on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery, 1621 Stuyvesant Ave., Union. For more information, or to send condolences to the family, visit www.bradleyfuneralhomes.com . Mr. Hoops was born in Newark, N.J., on July 10, 1925, to George and Amelia (nee Hess) Hoops. He proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the Marines from 1943 to 1945. Upon returning home, he went on to become a police officer in the Township of Irvington and reached the rank of lieutenant before retiring in 1977 after 25 years of service. Mr. Hoops was very active in the community, having served as president of the Irvington PBA and president of Chapter Two, a social group for widows and widowers in Essex Fells, N.J. In addition, he was an active member of the Livingston Old Guard. Harold was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (nee Walton) in 1982, and his brothers, Charles, William and George Hoops. Harold is survived by his three sons, Alan (Deborah), Jeffrey (Grace) and Philip (Michele), and his two loving grandchildren, Philip Hoops Jr. and Melissa Hoops. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
