Arnold O. Weiss

Arnold O. Weiss of New Providence, N.J., died Friday, March 14, 2014, at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, N.J. He was 82 years old.
A funeral service will be held at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, N.J., at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, with Pastor Charles Wagner officiating. Arney was born on June 9, 1931, the son of the late Hazel (Cort) and Otto J. Weiss, and grew up in Union, N.J. He was a resident of New Providence since 1960.
Arney was a graduate of Union High School, and served in the U.S. Army, 406th Engineering Construction Battalion, from 1952 to 1954.
He worked as a master tile craftsman for Phillip N. Torr Tile, Inc., in Livingston, N.J., for 42 years before retiring 17 years ago.
Arney was a life member of the VFW Post No. 6259 in Berkeley Heights, N.J., and the American Legion Post No. 433 in New Providence, N.J
He enjoyed freshwater fishing and gardening and was an ardent Yankees baseball fan. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren and socializing with neighbors and friends in his beautiful backyard.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Hazel Brant and Geogeanne Kupfner.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth B. Weiss; son, Scott G. Weiss and his fiancee, Christine De Franco, of New Providence, N.J.; daughters, Stephanie G. Weiss of Springfield, N.J.; Susan G., wife of Howard Glass, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Robin E. Weiss of New Providence, N.J.; four grandchildren, Heather Weiss and her fiance, Brian Dunne of Roselle Park, N.J., Daniel Weiss of San Diego, Calif., Matthew Glass and his wife, Lisa, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Amanda Glass of Boca Raton, Fla. Also surviving are his sister, Eleanor Torr, eight nephews and one niece.
