Arthur J. Siebelist

Arthur J. Siebelist, 101, of West Caldwell, N.J., died Saturday, March 9, 2013. Born in Boston, Mass., Mr. Siebelist lived in Caldwell, N.J., for over 50 years before moving to West Caldwell 12 years ago. He was employed by the New York Daily News for 49 years before retiring as picture assignment editor. Mr. Siebelist was proud of his work, loved his job, and was known to say he never had a bad day at work. An advocate for the improvement of mental illness services, he was a founding member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross in Montclair, N.J., and past member of the Elks BPOE Fairfield/Hanover chapter. He was also a member of the North Jersey Rose Society and the recipient of several awards for his miniature roses. Mr. Siebelist was the husband of the late MaryAnn; devoted father of JoAnn Siebelist and Sara Siebelist, both of Caldwell; dear brother of Bill Siebelist of Daytona, Fla.; fond uncle of three nieces and two nephews, and beloved companion of 11 years to Dorothy Mercy.
