Francis W. Sweigart Sr.

Francis W. Sweigart Sr. of Cedar Grove, N.J.; Little Falls, N.J.; Toms River, N.J., and Guilford, Conn., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Frank was the loving husband of the late Muriel B. Sweigart. Cemetery chapel services and military honors will be held on Friday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. in Laurel Grove Cemetery, 295 Totowa Rd., Totowa, N.J. He was the beloved father of Margaret Kozub and her husband, John Jr., of Guilford; Roberta Price of Fredericksburg, Va.; Deborah Bates of Baltimore, Md., and Francis W. Sweigart, Jr. and his wife, Jacquelyn, of Caldwell, N.J., and grandfather of John Kozub III, Amy Steffanides and her husband, Todd; Rosemary Sweigart and Brendan Sweigart. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Caden Kozub, Avery and Jack Steffanides, who were the light of his life in his later years. Mr. Sweigart served in the 482nd Bomb Group Eight Air Force of the Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II. Frank was a retired chief of the Little Falls Fire Company 3 and a member of the VFW Post 7506. He began working in the United States Post Office in Cedar Grove in 1949, was appointed postmaster in 1973 and retired in 1981. He lived at the Gables in Guilford for over 10 years.
