Janice Goodyear Obituary

Janice Claire Goodyear, a resident of Blacksburg, Va., for the past 28 years, passed away on April 3, 2013, at the age of 80 in Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, Va., from complications of Alzheimer's. A memorial service will be held at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11 a.m., with Father Remi Sojka officiating Janice was born on Dec. 14, 1932, in Paterson, N.J., daughter of Andrew and Marion Smetana. She married David C. Goodyear in 1959, in St. Paul's Church in Clifton, N.J. Janice earned full scholarships and graduated from Caldwell College in New Jersey and Duke University in North Carolina. A registered physical therapist, Janice cared for patients throughout the New River Valley area in Virginia for 15 years until retiring in 1999. Janice will always be remembered as a loving and compassionate person who would help anyone in need. She is survived by her husband, David Goodyear; son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Veronica Goodyear; daughter, Megan Goodyear Blatz; son, Eric Goodyear, and grandchildren, Sarah Shockley and Jack Blatz, all of Christiansburg, Va. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Marilyn Smetana of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C., and their six children.
