Seymour Bodner Obituary

Mr. Seymour S. Bodner, 85, of West Caldwell, N.J., died Monday, March 18, 2013, in the Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 11 a.m. in the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd., Livingston, N.J., with interment in Beth El Cemetery. Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Bodner, raised in West Orange, N.J., was a graduate of West Orange High School. He received a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1948, and then his M.S. in 1954, both from Newark College of Engineering. For 40 years, Mr. Bodner maintained a consulting engineering practice in the field of accident reconstruction and failure analysis. Earlier, he was an engineer in the plastics industry. Mr. Bodner wrote for periodical trade journals, presented papers at various technical society symposia, and lectured under the auspices of Stevens Institute of Technology. He was a past president and director of the New Jersey Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers and was a member of the New Jersey and National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Safety Engineers, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. The beloved husband of 61-and-one-half years to Rita (nee Horowitz), Seymour was the devoted father to Marc Bodner, Russell (Nancy) Bodner and Faye (Paul) Kovner; the dear brother of Pearl (Marvin) Bass and; the adoring grandfather of Matthew, Jeffrey, Andrew, and Michael. Contributions in his memory may be made to Temple Beth Shalom of Livingston.
