Ted Gonzalez, 57, of Verona, N.J., formerly of Rutherford, N.J., passed away on Dec. 24, 2013. Visiting will be at Collins-Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford, on Friday, Dec. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass is at the Church of St. Mary, 91 Home Ave., Rutherford, on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. Born in Havana, Cuba, Ted lived in Rutherford for most of his life. He graduated from St. Mary High School in Rutherford, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Northwestern University School of Respiratory Therapy. He was a respiratory therapist and department manager at NYU Medical Center, St. Peter's University Hospital, Princeton Medical Center, and other metropolitan hospitals, prior to retirement. Ted celebrated life, enjoying sports cars, music, movies, football and the Green Bay Packers. He loved to share his home in the Poconos with family and friends. He had a joke and a smile for everyone he met and will be sorely missed by loved ones. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Higgins of Verona; his parents, Federico and Margarita Gonzalez-Ferregur of Camarillo, Calif.; his brother, Sigfredo Gonzalez-Ferregur and wife, Louise Kiesel; nephew, Max Ferregur of Newbury Park, Calif., and many other family members.

Just saw Ted at Doctor Loreti's wake this past year. We had a nice conversation and we shared a laugh or two. What a nice warm guy he was and it was nice to speak again even though it was just in passing. May God Bless you Ted and welcome you as you pass through the gates of Heaven !

Although its been many years since I've seen Ted, there are wonderful (and funny!) memories I hold in my heart of him. Growing up together was a privilege, and I was witness to many moments of joy and laughter that he created with his fellow classmates. That was his gift. I expect to hear sounds of laughter echoing from the heavens now, as God will have a good time with Ted's humor. Love you, Teddy... I will miss you very much... and I know we shall me again one day on the other side. Be at peace, my friend.
