ROBERTA G. ZIMMER Roberta G. Zimmer passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. She was born on November 11, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama, the first of two daughters born to Louis Goldfarb and wife, Annie Kantor Goldfarb. She graduated public school in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama. She met her husband, William R. Zimmer while he was stationed briefly in the Birmingham, Alabama area during World War II. Roberta G. Zimmer and her husband, William R. Zimmer moved to Wilmington, North Carolina in January 1946 where they opened the first Reeds jewelry store in the South. Roberta was active in non-profit organizations including St. John's Museum of Art, Cape Fear Garden Club, The Founders' Society of Duke University and various other charities. She was a long time member of B'Nai Israel Synagogue. Roberta Zimmer was predeceased by her husband, William R. Zimmer. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Herbert J. Zimmer and wife, Ronna T. Zimmer, Arlene Z. Schreiber and husband, Ronald L. Schreiber, Jeffrey L. Zimmer and Alan M. Zimmer and wife, Rose W. Zimmer, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at B'Nai Israel Synagogue. Interment will immediately follow at B'Nai Israel Hebrew Cemetery. Visitation will follow thereafter at the family home at 1901 Hawthorne Road, Wilmington, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zimmer Cancer Center, B'Nai Israel Synagogue or the charity of your choice.
