BETTY BROWN CASTEEN
BURGAW -- Betty Brown Casteen, age 68, a devoted, loving and joyful wife, mom, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 20, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born January 25, 1944 in Pender County, the second of four children born to James Richard Brown and Margaret Howard Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Darren Keith Casteen and brother, Richard Lowell Brown.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, James "Jimmy" U. Casteen, Jr.; sons, Jeffery U. Casteen (Kelly) of Matthews and Jason B. Casteen (Cindy) of Holly Ridge; daughter-in-law, Kristin Farrior (David) of Watha; grandchildren, Amanda, Amy, Jory, Kody, Taylor, Lauren, Daryn, Lela, Riley and Kenley; great grandson, Thomas; sisters, Margaret Louise Moore and Ann Brown Wells (Robert), both of Burgaw; and many extended family and friends.
For many years Betty was a faithful member of Herrings Chapel United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was active in the United Methodist Women. Betty's quiet faith and thankfulness for her many blessings in life spoke clearly to her family and friends. Betty and Jimmy created a home filled with Christian love and goodness where family and friends are always welcomed with a hug and good home cooked meals. Words cannot describe Betty's endless love, kindness and generosity. Betty will be greatly missed by all of us.
A Celebration of Betty's Life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Herrings Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Rick Russell, Pastor William Hill Pearsall and Mr. Darrell Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
