OLEN "BARNEY" VANCE BARNHILL Olen "Barney" V. Barnhill, 76, of Wilmington and formerly of Burgaw passed from his earthly life to his heavenly home on Friday, September 13, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born April 30, 1937 in Burgaw, the son of the late Sterling S. and Lorna Louise Cottle Barnhill. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Carver; sister, Blanche Thompson; brother, David Barnhill; and step-children, Carolyn Hardy and Michael Monroe. Olen is survived by his son, David Olen Tracy Barnhill (Cindy); grandchildren, Josh Barnhill, Kenny Barnhill and James Carver (Stephanie Gardner); step-children, Linda Moore (Johnny) and Terry Monroe (Donita); several step-grandchildren; great granddaughter, Olivia; sister, Edna B. Woodcock (A. C.); special friends, Faye Marley and Jack Edwards; and many extended family and friends. Olen was a graduate of Wallace High School Class of 1955. He served his country honorably in the US Army National Guard and Olen attended and completed NCO Leadership Class No. 3 training with the NC Military Academy at Ft. Bragg in 1962. He was an active member of Victory Christian Fellowship. Barney was dedicated to his family and was a good and caring friend to many. He was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and in years past enjoyed the races on the race track in Richlands. Through many illnesses Barney's faith in Jesus Christ never wavered and he treasured the fellowship with his church family. Barney had a kind heart, a warm smile and a feisty sense of humor that could brighten any rainy day. Barney blessed the lives of many and leaves a legacy of love and hope and kindness. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Victory Christian Fellowship with Pastor Allen McKeithan and Pastor Rocky Myrick officiating. Burial will follow in Haw Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery, Kelly NC. The family will receive friends on Monday at the church at 10:00 a.m. until hour of the service. Barney was a great guy and neighbor with a big heart and had a great love for Jesus. We will miss him very much.

I knew Barney for a long time starting back at the Cape Fear Hotel Apts., a very kind and caring man. Loved to meet and talk to Barney at various gospel sings something he did when he could and was able. The last time I spoke to him was a sing several months back, will miss you Barney.

I've known Barney all my and I don't think I've met a sweeter or kinda person.I've never heard him say a bad word against anyone. I sure will miss you Barny but I will remember you fondly until I get to heaven to see you again.I know you are touching the face of God right now and praiseing him with all your heart. I love you and I'll see you again some day.
