Walker, Daisey Irene Benton - Wilmington  
DAISEY IRENE BENTON WALKER Daisy Irene Benton Walker, 95, of Wilmington, NC went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2016. She was born in Brunswick Co. on January 6, 1921 to the late Loucresie Allen Benton and George Franklin Benton. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis James Walker and daughter, Loucresie Irene Walker Mercer. She was an avid gardener and Quilter. She is survived by her children, Betty Walker Watkins, Nancy "Billie" Walker Sundquist and husband Sunny, James Franklin Walker "Butch" and his wife Edna; sister, Aleene Benton Thorpe; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 9 great- great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. Funeral Service will be held at 11am with Daisy's Grandson, Robert James "Sport" Mercer officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412. Pallbearers will be Greg Hall, Josh Thompson, Billy Futch, Austin Edwards, Cameron Casteen, Bryan Gerganous, Tommy Edwards and Roy Thompson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Condolences to the family may be offered at www.coblewardsmithwilmington.com

SAM RAY WATSON Sam Ray Watson 86, widower of Rita Watson and a long time resident of the Wrightsboro Community passed away Saturday June 18, 2016 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Sam was born in Sampson county September 23, 1929 the son of the late Thomas E. and Etta Lee Woodard Watson. Sam served his country faithfully in the United States Army, and was also preceded in death by brothers Jack, Revere and Milton Watson. Surviving are a daughter Sandra W. Tucker and husband Michael of Wilmington, and Mary Etta Watson of Stuart, FL; granddaughters Ashley Siddons and husband Josh of Castle Hayne; and Christina Perez and husband Johnathon of Stuart, FL, great-grandson Connor Siddons, Also surviving are brother Glenn Watson, of Wilmington and sisters Marie Merritt and husband Pit of Currie, and Mary Hall of Magnolina. Sam was a faithful member and Trustee of Apostolic Tabernacle Church where funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday June 24, 2016. The Reverend L.E. Logue will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. He will receive Full Military honors at the graveside. The family will see friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the church. Watts, Hazel Hickman - Southport  
HAZEL HICKMAN WATTS Hazel Hickman Watts, age 103, of Boiling Spring Lakes, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Mrs. Watts was born January 23, 1913 in Southport, the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Sellers Hickman. Mrs. Watts operated the Brunswick County Home for 17 years. As quoted in the State Port Pilot, "during that time the facility had earned a reputation for kind treatment, cleanliness and good care, but the building left much to be desired." In 1966, she and her husband built Ocean Trail Boarding Home in Southport and owned and operated it until 1973. Mrs. Watts loved her church and her church family; she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was active in the choir. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and a "Granny" to anyone that needed her. She was an inspiration to all that knew her. Mrs. Watts was preceded in death by her husband Sam Raymond Watts, a son Gene A. Watts, two brothers, six sisters, a grandson Jimmy Brendle, and two great-granddaughters. Survivors include her son J. Douglas Watts and wife Lavonne; two daughters Annette Watts Brendle, and Harriet Watts Bevel; a brother Charles Hickman; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Vic Potter officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will have visitation at Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home from 12:30 to 2:30 pm prior to the service on Wednesday. Online condolences may be made at www.peacocknewnamwhite.com . MICHAEL WEST Simpsonville, SC - Michael Glenn West, 43, passed away at his home in Simpsonville, SC on June 14, 2016. Michael was born in Wilson, NC to William and Peggy West. He attended E.T. Beddingfield High School and proudly served as a US Navy veteran of Desert Storm and Somalia. He survived Stage 3 Colon Cancer at the age of 26. He received a bachelor's degree in Business Management from East Carolina University. Michael's career included Retail Banking Branch Manager for RBC Bank in Wilmington, NC until 2007, Regional Manager of Retail Operations for PNC Bank on the Outer Banks of NC from 2007-2013, and was presently Vice President of Retail Banking for Park Sterling Bank in South Carolina and Georgia. Michael was preceded in death by a son, Michael Glenn West, Jr. and a miscarried infant, and an uncle, Gene Hayes. He is survived by his wife of nine years, Krista, and daughter, Avery Gracyn, 8 months. He is also survived by his parents William West of Dothan, Al. and Peggy West of Wilmington, NC; a sister, Cathy Price, and husband Donnie, of Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother, Bill West, of Wilmington, NC; cousin Teasie Starling, and husband Randy, of Garner, NC; nephew Tyler West of Charlotte, NC; niece Alex Loftin of Wilmington, NC; nephews Logan Loftin, Harrison West, and Colt West all of Wilmington, NC; niece Kenlyn West of Wilmington, NC; cousins Erin, David, Jimmy, Daniel, and Jen Starling of Garner, NC; father-and mother-in-law Bill & Tyresia French; sister-in-law Shannon Glisson, and husband Travis; and nephews Nathan and Grayon Glisson all of Greenville, NC; and an uncle, Albert Hayes and wife Brenda of Wilson, NC. Funeral services will be held at Andrews Mortuary and Crematory on College Rd in Wilmington, NC on Saturday, June 18th beginning at 2pm. The service will be officiated by Rev. Gene Williams and Rev. Ben Hill. The family will receive friends at the mortuary immediately following the service.
