Gobble, Everette K. - Kinston  
EVERETTE K. GOBBLE Dec. 13, 1935 - May 20, 2016 Everette Kinsman Gobble, 80, of Kinston, entered into the nearer presence of God on May 20, 2016. He was the son of Everette Claude Gobble, Neda King and Ernest King of Hamlet. A graduate of Hamlet High School and UNC-Chapel Hill, Everette earned his graduate degree in school administration from ECU-Greenville and enjoyed 40 years of dedicated service in the field of education. He was principal at Ogden and College Park Schools before becoming superintendent/principal of Woodland Park Dependents School at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Known as "Mr. G" by co-workers and students, his dedication and enthusiasm for people led to many lifelong friendships. Everette loved people and considered friends as treasures. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gwen Fussell Gobble; his beloved children and grandson, Betsy Williams (Stan), David Gobble (Sandra) and Brooks Gobble. A celebration of Everette's life will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 2 p.m. from Westminster United Methodist Church, Kinston. A committal service will be held Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 2 p.m. from Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington. Friends will be received following each service. Horne, Sally C. - Wilmington  
SALLY C. HORNE Sally Elizabeth Cummings Horne, 77, of Wilmington, went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 21, 2016. She was the beloved wife of Harold I. Horne. Sally was born in Aberdeen, NC, on August 24, 1938 and had worked as a telemetry technician in the Cardiology Department of New Hanover Regional Medical Center until her retirement. She was a member of the God's House of Praise in Leland Besides her husband Harold, Sally leaves her sons, Michael Douglas Ward, Glenn Douglas Ward, Ricky Allen Ward, and Christopher Brian Ward, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Edgar and Mary Florence Wilson Cummings, her daughters, Deborah Jean Ward and Patricia Sue Smith, her sons, Bobby Eugene Ward, Donald Lane Ward, and Ronald Lane Ward, and 3 brothers. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2016, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Earl Hewett officiating. Lewis, J. B. - Burgaw  
J.B. LEWIS J.B. Lewis, age 97, of Burgaw, North Carolina passed away gently on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Pender Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 15, 1919 in Greenville, NC, to Howell and Luzetta Lewis. In addition to his parents, J.B. was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Daisy Lewis; grandson, James Lewis; son-in-law, David McLendon; sisters, Alma Ellen, Vera Edwards and Hilda Alexander; and brothers Howell Lewis, Earl Lewis and Jasper Lewis. J.B. moved to Burgaw in 1952 where he and his wife founded Lewis Sausage Company. J.B. was a faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church where he served three terms as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He also served his community as a member and chairman of Pender Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, a member and past president of Burgaw Rotary Club, past Master of King Solomon Lodge No.138 A.F.& A.M. where he was a 32nd degree Mason, and was a member and past president of NC Meat Packing Association. His love and commitment to his community was reflected through his service and devotion to his church and numerous organizations. J.B. enjoyed extensive travels to many countries during the years he was involved in the meat packing business and during his retirement. He derived the most pleasure from his family and their much anticipated reunions at the Lewis Family Farm. He always instilled the importance of education in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Ruth Lewis Taylor (William Ivey Taylor III) and Dorothy Lewis McLendon; son, James "Jimmy" Bryant Lewis (Linda B. Lewis); grandchildren, Roberta LaSure (Bruce), John William Taylor, David McLendon (Berta), Elizabeth McLendon and Tammy Horne; great grandchildren, Taylor and Kristen LaSure, Alarin, Alix, Cypress and Moss Taylor, David and Jose McLendon, and Nicholas Horne; sister, Margaret Lewis; and brothers, Coye Lewis and Charles Lewis. He is also survived by special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. J.B. will be greatly missed by his loved ones. Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Burgaw Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday May 26 at 11:00 a.m. in the church fellowship hall until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Burgaw Baptist Church, PO Box 385, Burgaw, NC 28425 or to NHRMC Foundation for Pender Memorial Hospital, 507 E. Fremont St. Burgaw, NC 28425. Purvis, Patrick - Wilmington  
PATRICK PURVIS August 4, 1951 - May 10, 2016 Patrick Purvis passed away at his home in Grants Pass, Oregon on Tuesday May 10. Pat is predeceased by his parents, George and Evelyn Purvis, and his brother George Purvis Jr. Pat is survived by his wife Betty, his sisters, Donna Evelyn Purvis and Nancy Creighton Poe (K. Barry Poe), his children Sarah Evelyn Purvis Petersen (Scott Petersen), Hannah Rebecca Purvis and George Patrick Purvis, and grandchildren Mary Evelyn Petersen, Scott Patrick Taylor Petersen and Caleb Baxter-Lisk. Pat is also survived by niece Virginia Poe Christopher and grand-nephews Solomon and Inman. He is lovingly remembered by Rebecca Neilson Hamilton, mother of their children. Pat was born in Fredericksburg, VA. He attended Fayetteville High School, Graham Eckes High School, Palm Beach, FL, and Fayetteville Tech. He worked for his father in the family business, Lafayette Ford and Patrick Ford. He enjoyed traveling, music, cooking, antiquing, car collecting & trading. Spending time with family and friends was most dear to him. He created a rescue haven for caring and placement of dogs and cats. A memorial service will be held at 1 o'clock, Saturday, June 11 at Salem United Methodist Church, Eastover, North Carolina. Family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal shelter or rescue of your choice.

Shanklin, Wade Roberts - 1. New Hanover  
WADE ROBERTS SHANKLIN After a brave struggle with Parkinson's disease, Wade Roberts Shanklin, 79, of Wilmington, NC passed away on May 18, 2016. Wade was born July 1, 1936 to parents Emmie Boroughs Shanklin and Wade Montgomery Shanklin of Lyman, SC. After graduating Duncan High School in 1954, he attended Georgia Institute of Technology finishing with a degree in mechanical engineering. Wade went on to serve as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force for four years. After twelve years with Burlington Industries, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of opening his own material handling business. His current company, Loading Automation, Inc., will continue to thrive in his memory by the care of his manager and devoted friend Brett Murrill. Wade's legacy will live on through Mr. Murrill and his loving staff who he considered family. Wade leaves his beloved wife of 25 years, Phyllis (Feigl) Shanklin; his brother Eugene (Emily) Shanklin; his daughters Lynn (David) Shanklin Caldwell, Yvonne (Gary) Shanklin Wyatt, and Christina (Brett) Petersen Tanner. He was "PaPa Wade" to six grandchildren: Caswell, Cole, Callie, Franklin, Gage, and Lucy. Wade is also survived by his former spouse Ann Israel Shanklin and many family and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 24th from 6 pm - 8 pm at Andrews Mortuary, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC. Services will be held Wednesday, May 25th at 11:00 am at Wrightsville United Methodist Church. Entombment will immediately follow in the Mausoleum at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC. Family will receive friends and serve light refreshments at Wrightsville United Methodist Church following the entombment. A special thanks goes to Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC for their loving care and support and to Andrews Mortuary for handling the funeral arrangements.
