Claud, Jacqueline M.
JACQUELINE M. CLAUD On January 23, 2015, after a long and courageous battle, Jackie passed away peacefully and no longer in pain. Jackie vowed to live a well-lived life- one of strong faith, compassion, forgiveness, and integrity. Jackie was born on August 15, 1949. She was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers. She is survived by a son, daughter-in-law, three sisters, two brothers-in-law, a brother, sister-in-law, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving friends. Jackie joined the military as a young adult where she learned such attributes as high standards, organization, and hard work which became deeply ingrained. She lived for many years in Miami, Florida, and worked there in the private sector where she was very successful. After her industry downsized, she decided to change careers. She went back to school, earned a teaching degree, and moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, to pursue a teaching career. In Wilmington "Ms. Claud" taught at Lakeside, New Hanover High School, and intermittently at Cape Fear Community College in computer technology. She also helped developed technology curriculum at the state level and was active in NCAE. Many students will attest that Ms. Claud was a tough taskmaster who encouraged her students to work hard, study hard, and work hard and thus, become successful. This was proven each year by her students' rate on the state exams. Jackie loved life. She graduated from the "Live Strong" program at the YMCA where she made many new friends. She thoroughly enjoyed the classes and working out at the YMCA. Jackie also was an excellent cook and loved to experiment with new recipes and ingredients. In addition Jackie was a lover of reading, new technology, and "beautiful" things. But most of all, Jackie had a strong faith in God. Sundays were reserved for Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she sat with her friend Pat each Sunday. She also enrolled in numerous Bible study classes. Jackie lived her faith each and every day-not just on Sundays. Through her faith Jackie was able to maintain a positive attitude while fighting cancer. Jackie was truly a wonderful person. She leaves behind many people who will miss her. Her special friend Ann whom Jackie often spent holidays as well as retail therapy at Macy's; her special sister Thelma who always came when needed, and the Windemere Tea Party gang. I will miss my best friend. I love you.

Dodd, Mary Frances Goodman
MARY FRANCES GOODMAN DODD Mary Frances Goodman Dodd went to be with her beloved Savior on Sunday, March 1st, 2015. Known affectionately to everyone as "Mamaw Dodd", she exuded love and kindness to all and was the epitome of a devout Christian. Born April 10, 1925, in Salisbury, NC, to Ira Winfield Goodman and Mattie Hill Goodman, Mary had three older sisters and two older brothers. After losing her mother, father, and sister to illness, Mary then joined the Junior Order Children's Home in Tiffin, Ohio, at the age of 5 where she was nurtured and shared love with other children who had also lost their fathers. Through her father's membership in the Junior Order of American Mechanics, all of her needs and education were provided for. She always regarded these "home kids" as her special sisters and brothers. At the age of 14, she moved to the North Carolina Junior Order Home in Lexington, now known as the American Children's Home. She learned that kindness, endurance, determination, hard work, and a strong faith in God enable a person for a successful life. Throughout her lifetime, Mary returned to both of these homes for reunions and special occasions to be with her beloved "home kids". She cherished the precious moments that she shared with all of these incredible people. In 1941, she married Harvey Maryland Dodd and resided in Winston-Salem, NC. Their firstborn child, Everett, died at birth. The couple was later blessed with three devoted daughters. Mary was employed by Carolina Narrow Fabrics for 30 years. After retiring, they relocated to Wilmington. They were married for 52 years before Harvey's death in 1993. She was a member of College Acres Baptist Church. Mary's legacy and her unconditional love for her family and others will live on through the generations. With God as her foundation, Mary continued to bless all who met her. She lived her entire life always maintaining her priorities of God, family, and friends. Mary is survived by her daughter Marsella D. Teachey and husband, Jim, of Wilmington and granddaughters Krista M. Wharton (husband David) of Johnson City, TN, and Tia M. Simser (husband Eddie) of Pittsboro; daughter Phyllis D. Swicegood and husband, Jerry, and granddaughters Sandy S. Young (husband Danny) and Sheri S. Lanier (husband Stewart), all of Lexington; daughter Carolyn D. Burnett and husband, Ed, and grandchildren Edwin, Grayson and Chandler Burnett, all of Southport. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. A big heart-felt thank you goes to her special "family" at Spring Arbor, the Wilmington Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Mr. Townzel for their tireless efforts. Many thanks also to Zimmer Cancer Center Radiology Department for their dedication and to the staff of 5th floor and 10th floor Hospice Care and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their loving care. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5th at Andrews Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market Street,Wilmington, NC , with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6th, also at the chapel, with the Rev. Patricia DiGiuseppe officiating. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Mary Frances Goodman Dodd Memorial Fund at The American Children's Home P.O. Box 1288 Lexington, NC. 27293-1288 (336)357-7126 www.ach-nc.org Condolences: www.andrewsmortuary.com Andrews Market Chapel
