William "Bill" Dempsey Harris passed away on Sunday, December 9th in Wilmington, NC.

Born in Norwood, NC on January 27th, 1931, Bill, known as "Dub" to his family, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, piloting refueling missions in the KC-135. After retiring in 1971 at the rank of Major he and his family moved to Wilmington where he worked at DuPont for 21 years.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Harris Ham. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Brock Harris, son William D. Harris, Jr. and his wife Angeli, daughter Camille "Cammie" Harris Sawyer and her husband Paul Sawyer, son-in-law Larry Ham and grandchildren Elizabeth Ham, Matthew Harris and Caroline Harris. One of 10 children, he is survived by two sisters, Betty Henderson and Elvene Bearden.

Bill always put his family first and took the greatest pleasure in sharing meals and holidays with them. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 13th from 7 to 8:30 pm at Pine Valley Church of Christ at 3601 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28409. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 14th at 3 pm at Pine Valley Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pine Valley Church of Christ.
