CHARLES BRYSON BRIDGES
Charles Bryson Bridges, 80 passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
Charles was born on October 18, 1932, in Senica, SC, son of H.M. Bridges and Cordellia M. Bridges. He was married for 61 years to his high school sweetheart Ruth Wiggins Bridges.
Charles was retired from Textilease Corp. where he was the Divisional Vice President of Sales & Service for 39 years. Lifetime member of Local Elks Club
#532. Lifetime member of Cape Fear Sales & Marketing Executive Club. One of the fathers of Youth Football, where he was the "First President & Commissioner". Founder of Winter Park Optimist - "The second" American Legion Team with players from the New Hoggard High School. Charles was also involved with Little League Baseball, Youth Baseball and in later years AAU Baseball along with Legion Post 10 Baseball. An Avid Golfer he used to state that "I shot my age at least once every year from age 68". (Shot my first 69 on Father's Day while playing with my sons at Myrtle Beach.)
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, H. Douglas Bridges, and daughter-in-law, Martha Bridges
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Bridges; sons, Charles Terry Bridges, Donald Keith Bridges, and Gary Alan Bridges; grandchildren, Becky Bridges Prevatte and husband, Adam, Chris Bridges and wife, Amanda, Cody Bridges, and Keith Bridges and his wife, Cammie; great-grandchildren, Addison Prevatte, and Zackary and Noah Bridges; sisters-in-law, Alice Walton, Margaret Lynch, and Betty Bridges.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington NC 28412, with Rev. Chuck Love and Rev. Chris Wroten officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Prior to the service, the family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 12:30pm until the service hour, and at other times at the home of Ruth Bridges.
