MR. CLARENCE "SNOOKIE" BROWN, SR.
Mr. Clarence "Snookie" Brown, Sr., age 86, of Rose Hill, NC, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Vidant Duplin Hospital in Kenansville. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 26, 2013, at Padgett Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Linda Grider. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha. A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Padgett Funeral Chapel.
He is survived by his son, Alton "Tommy" Brown of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Aaron Brown and wife Julie of Albertson, NC, and Andrew Brown and wife Brittany of Rose Hill, NC; two great- grandchildren, Averee Brown and Grayson Brown; a brother, Billy Brown and wife Betty of Burgaw, NC; and a sister, Ruth Norris of Wallace, NC.
Born December 11, 1926, in Rose Hill, NC, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Willie Alton and Nellie (Dew) Brown and was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Cottle Brown, a son, Clarence Brown, Jr., a brother, Homer Brown, and two sisters Mildred Williams and Thelma McReynolds.
Snookie served in the United States Army as a General Clerk during WWII
. During his time in service he earned the rank of SGT/E-5 and received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Brown served as the Mayor of Rose Hill as well as being on the City Council for over 20 years. He was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church serving as a Deacon for many years and has recently been attending the Woodland United Methodist Church. Mr. Brown's passion in life was his family and the Lord. He loved spending time playing with his great grandchildren. Some of his interests included gardening, carpentry work, feeding and watching the squirrels, and fishing.
Casket bearers will be Billy Floyd, Jeffery Williams, Gary Boney, Ronald Brown, David Brown and Steve Cavenaugh.
