Eleanor (Kraft) Hoffman

ELEANOR

KRAFT HOFFMAN

Eleanor (Kraft) Hoffman peacefully passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on February 11, 1916 in Philadelphia, and was predeceased by her parents, George and Martha Kraft, a sister, Martha Kraft Ahern, and husband, Albert Hoffman. Eleanor is survived by her nephew and his wife, Frank and Patricia Ahern, of Wilmington, a cousin, Eleanor Kensinger and husband, Phillip, of Acworth, GA, and related family and friends in the Philadelphia area. Eleanor graduated from Jules Massbaum HS and later married Albert Hoffman in 1941. They enjoyed a quiet life in Philadelphia until he passed away 10 years ago. During their years together, she and Albert enjoyed a home at Harvey Cedars-LBI, NJ, regular family gatherings and their many pet dogs. After many years of service, Eleanor retired from SKF Industries. Eleanor made the decision to move to Wilmington, NC and resided at Brightmore Assisted Living Facility, first at The Kempton, and more recently, at The Commons. She insisted on living her life on "her terms", which included getting around with her walker and never being told what she needed to do, and doing things for herself. Eleanor enjoyed being "snug as a bug" in her Brightmore apartment watching Turner Moving Classics and napping. Known for her hearty laugh, she had a big sweet tooth and a generous soft spot for animals and children. Eleanor loved chocolate, had a tendency to eat her dessert first, and developed a taste for Krispy Kreme doughnuts after moving South.

Funeral services will be in Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Philadelphia SPCA, 350 E. Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19134, or any other animal rescue organization.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to The Kempton and The Commons staff members at Brightmore who tended to Eleanor. In addition, the nursing staffs at NHRMC on Floors 9 & 10 deserve a big hug and thank you for their tender care to Eleanor during her last days. Lastly, the family would like to thank Dr. George Sylvestri, WHA, for his attentive and sensitive care to Eleanor's needs, especially this past month. She was blessed to have all of you in her life.
