Everett Clarence Gourlay

EVERETT CLARENCE GOURLAY Mr. Gourlay was born in Floral Park, New York, the son of Clarence H. and Lillian K. Gourlay. He attended schools in New York and graduated from Sawanhaka Central High School on Long Island, New York. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He finished his service as an intelligence officer of a Naval Underwater Demolition Team. A graduate of Dartsmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, he held designation of Chartered Life Underwriter from the American College of Life Underwriters, Bryn Mar, Pennsylvania. He retired after 40 years as a life insurance agent with Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company of Washington, D.C.. Mr. Gourlay was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, in Irmo, S.C., where he served as an elder and trustee. He was a member of the Gideons International, past president of Columbia Life Underwriters Association, and a member of various business and professional organizations. He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Dorothy Hansen Gourlay; sons, Robert E. Gourlay (and daughter-in-love, Karen) of Charlotte, N.C. and Dr. Kenneth H. Gourlay (and daughter-in-love, Laurie) of Wilmington, N.C.; and daughter, Christy G. Mullally (and son-in-love, Jay) of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister, Roberta G. Dimick of Woodberry, Florida; nine grandchildren and three great grandsons.
