Fred C. Ballard Jr.

FRED C. BALLARD, JR. Fred Clayton Ballard, Jr., 90, of Wilmington, died Monday, October 7, 2013, at Kindred Care and Rehab - Cypress Pointe. Fred was born January 30, 1923 in Wadesboro, NC, son of the late Fred Clayton Ballard, Sr. and Florida Ingram Ballard. His brother, Frank Ingram Ballard, and his sister, Sara Ballard Devlyn, preceded him in death. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II from 1942 - 1945. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a degree in Certified Public Accounting. Fred began his career as a reporter for the Star News and later was the first Comptroller at New Hanover Memorial Hospital. Fred was an avid Carolina fan and loved to cheer on his beloved Tar Heels. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanette Ballard Scram and her husband, Edward Scram, and two granddaughters, Kelsey Marie Scram and Lyndie Grace Scram, all of Baton Rouge, LA. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dorothy H. Ballard of Wilmington, NC and nieces and nephews, Frank Ballard, Jr., Thomas Ballard, Jean Ballard, Frances Nunnally, and Anne Chandler. A memorial service will be held at 10am Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. The family will greet friends prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Fred's memory to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
