Gladys Stephenson Clayton

GLADYS STEPHENSON CLAYTON Gladys Stephenson Clayton, 92, of Wilmington passed away peacefully on Friday November 8, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter. She was born on August 2, 1921 in Johnston Co., NC to the late J. Lynn Stephenson and Rose Ann Stephenson. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Weldon Clayton and siblings, Clydia Williams, Jarvis Stephenson and Zoe Stephenson. Gladys is survived by her son, Donald Clayton and his wife Kathie; her grandchildren, Ashley Brownson and Abby Clayton; a sister, Nellie Clayton; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. Gladys enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden. She loved fishing for Spots and was known as The Fishing Lady. Early on, Gladys was a member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church and later became a member of Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church. Gladys took great pride in sharing her vegetables and preserves. Above all, Gladys treasured spending time with her loving family and friends. A visitation will be held from 10-11 am, Monday, November 11, 2013 at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church with funeral services to follow at 11am. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
