Glenn Blanchard Coats



Glenn Blanchard Coats, 66, of Wilmington, formerly of Dunn, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. He was born on March 3, 1946 to the late Leck Coats & Thelma Slaughter Coats. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Coats and a sister in law, Pat Coats.

He graduated from Dunn High School in 1964, and then attended Campbell College where he received a Business degree.

Glenn began his business career in the banking industry and then became involved in the family business, Coats Distributors, Inc. He moved from Dunn to Rock Hill, SC where received a music degree from Winthrop University. His love of music led him to several musical careers, including teaching school band. He later moved to Wilmington and became the accountant for The Gentry House. His musical talents and love of the French horn led to a life of enjoyment performing with choirs, brass ensembles and orchestras. Glenn will always be remembered for his love of music, family & friends.

His family invites all of his friends to join them for a graveside service, Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to , P.O. He is survived by his son, Benjamin Lloyd Coats, of Wilmington, his sisters, Adelaide & Jerry Thomas, Rose Marie Coats, both of Wrightsville Beach, his brothers, Jimmy Coats of Dunn, Lloyd & Patsy Coats, of Dunn, as well as a host of loving nieces & nephews.
