Jane Daphne Rilance Keefer



Jane Daphne Rilance Keefer, 73, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, died Friday, January 25, 2013, in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center, Brunswick House", Bolivia, NC.

Born in Orange, CT on March 2, 1939, she was a daughter of the late, Dr. Arnold Boone Rilance and Bunny Marshall Rilance. Mrs. Keefer graduated from the Northfield Mt. Hermon High School, Mt. Hermon, MA where she began her love of singing. After high school she graduated from Simmons College and then Columbia University where she earned her nursing degree, Jane then served her residency at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NY, NY. Jane was a Psychiatric Nurse and Therapist, for 27 years, during that time she became the director of three public mental health clinics in the Montgomery County, MD area. Her love of singing continued and she began to sing in church groups as well as publically. She also enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, knitting and sewing. Mrs. Keefer was not one to remain idle, she was a member of St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church, Shallotte, NC where she was primarily a member of the Choir, Vestry and she was a Junior Warden. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jon Rilance and a sister, Nancy Rilance.

Survivors include her husband, Richard "Dick" Keefer; a daughter, Jennifer White and husband Steven of Seattle, WA; a sister, Janet Rilance of New Haven, CT and two grandchildren, Hailey Madison Arnold and Renate Nicole Arnold.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 29, 2013 in St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church.
