Jimmy Lee King, son of Nancy King-Waters and the late Albert King, died at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, on Saturday, February 16, 2013. He was born March 24, 1949, in Duplin County, NC.

Jimmy was educated in the Duplin County Public School System. Following graduation, he entered the United States Army, where he served honorably for twenty-eight years; he received several honors and awards. After leaving the military, Jimmy started a career with the Department of Motor Vehicle, where he later retired.

Jimmy was a very dutiful church member at Saint Matthew A.M.E. Church, Raleigh, North Carolina, serving in many auxiliaries, prior to joining Watts Chapel Church. While at Watts Chapel, he continued to serve faithfully in his Christian duties.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Jones King of Garner, NC; his mother, Nancy King-Waters, Wallace, NC; his children, Jimmy King, Jr., Raleigh, NC, Nicola King Irving (Mitchell), Fairburn, GA, Travis King, Raleigh, NC, and Derrick King, Cary, NC; four grandchildren; his siblings, Albert King (Rebecca), Wallace, NC, Jerry King, Raleigh, NC, Ronnie King (Nicole), Magnolia, NC, Daniel King (Gail), Columbus, GA and Ricky King (Sylvia), Jacksonville, FL; two aunts, one uncle; his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service for Mr. King will be held at 6:00 pm, Fri. evening, Feb. 22, 2013, at Saint Matthew A.M.E. Church, Raleigh, NC. The funeral and final viewing will be 11:00 am Sat., Feb. 23, 2013, at Wallace-Rose Hill Fine Arts Center, Teachey, NC.
