JOHN BRIGHT HILL, JR.

John Bright Hill, Jr. died early Sunday, April 21, 2013. He was born in Wilmington, NC on November 19, 1928, the son of the late John Bright Hill and Katherine Taylor Hill of Wilmington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Leek Hill, and also his brother, William Lanier Hill, II.

He is survived by his three children: Katherine Taylor Stallings and her husband Patrick, John Leek Hill, and Margaret Hill Brackett and her husband David; and four granddaughters: Rebekah Marin Stallings, Sara Caroline Stallings, Sara Ann Brackett, and Laura Claire Brackett.

Mr. Hill attended New Hanover High School and graduated from Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, Virginia. He went on to attend North Carolina State University, where he was active in Army ROTC and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He graduated from NCSU with a degree in Civil Engineering and returned to Wilmington, working as an engineer for the Atlantic Coast Line railroad. He also served in the US Army Reserve, achieving the rank of Major. He moved to Washington DC where he met and married his wife Sara and worked for 20 years for the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Pentagon. He retired from his professional career in 1980 to return to his hometown of Wilmington where he raised his three children.

Mr. Hill was an avid golfer and bridge player, and enjoyed visiting friends and family at home and at Wrightsville Beach. He especially loved playing games with his granddaughters. He was a member of the Cape Fear Country Club, Carolina Yacht Club, L'Arioso German Club, and the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati.

A graveside service for Mr. Hill will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Oakdale Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Andrews Mortuary on Market Street on Monday, April 22 from 6-8 pm.

Memorials in Mr. Hill's honor may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice,1414 Physicians Dr, Wilmington, NC 28401.
