Joseph Pluta

JOSEPH PLUTA Joseph Pluta, 102, of Wilmington, passed away May 3, 2014 surrounded by his family at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center. He was born December 10, 1911 in Woonsocket, RI to the late Andrew Pluta and Stasia Ciolkowska. Joe moved to Wilmington in 1957 to help set up textile manufacturing operations at Timmie Corporation. He worked in textile manufacturing for over 50 years. Joe was a great teacher, storyteller, fisherman, carpenter, mechanic, and world traveler. His mind was always working, as he planned his next projects. He was quick to engage in a discussion of politics of the past, present and future. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Kazan and his sister, Frances Mellor. Dorothy White, his wife of 4 years, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters Sandra Chipman, Judy Wilson, and Ginger Humphrey and his 3 grandchildren Lisa Wilson, Julie Humphrey, and Joseph Chipman. He is also survived by other family members. The family appreciates the support of all Hospice staff and volunteers and his special friends Diane, Faye, John, Barbara and Barry. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm, Sunday, May 4 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street. A burial service will be held on Monday, 10 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 16th and Market.
