Louis Frank Hines, Jr. age 85, formerly of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013, at his daughter's home in Rome, GA.

Mr. Hines was born in Wilmington, NC, on March 23, 1927, son of the late Trixie Rouse and Louis Frank Hines, Sr. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years and mother of his three children, Frances Bland Hines. Very dear to him were his two son's wives which preceded him also, Charlene Lord Hines and Debra Hines.

He was raised in Winter Park, where he played semi-pro baseball for the Winter Park Rangers. His father also was their coach. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge, Pine Valley Country Club all in Wilmington, the Rome American Legion and the Wilmington Optimist Club. He served in the United States Navy as a Seaman Second Class, V6, USNR, World War II, received an American Theatre Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Medal and a Victory Medal. In 1982 Mr. Hines retired from Babcock & Wilcox "a McDermott Company" with 30 years of loyal and faithful service as a Maintenance Superintendent. After retirement he enjoyed shrimping on his boat "Sea Coast One" with his son Allen and grandson Tommy. His joy in life was living on the Intracoastal Waterway where he built his and Frances their dream home. He was an avid golfer, a member at Pine Valley Country Club and enjoyed traveling with the Sr. Golfers.

Survivors include 2 sons; Louis Frank Hines, III (Buddy) and Allen Crowell Hines both of Wilmington, NC, and one daughter; Rosemary Hines Shellnut and her husband Kenneth of Rome, GA. Grandchildren include; Tommy Hines Mungo and his wife Jackie, Jessica Rollings, Nicole Hendrick and her husband Edgar, Bobby Grindstaff Hines all of Wilmington, two loving sisters; Louise Cullins of Wilmington, and Dorothy Tatum Taylor and her husband Mark of Leland, NC., 11 great grandchildren; Caylin Northway, Zachary Hines, Brielle Hines, Sebastian Hendrick, Isaac Hendrick, Aryel Holcomb, Austin Edwards, Brandon Edwards, Hannah Rollings, Jake Mungo, and Drew Mungo, three nieces; Frankie Hines, Linda Groves, Shiela Tatum Gray and one nephew Frank Weiss.

Services for Mr. Hines will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. February 16, 2013 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church 1401 South College Rd. Wilmington, NC 28403 with Rev. Beth Hood officiating. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens 306 Bradley Dr. Wilmington, NC 28409 with military rites. The family will receive friends at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home in Wilmington Friday evening February 15, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Those asked to serve as pallbearers are: Tommy Groves, Jimmy Cone, and Duke Edwards, and are asked to be at Wesley Memorial United Church no later than 10:30 Saturday morning. Honorary pallbearers are: Bobby Benson, Robert Jarrell, Robert Southerland, Alton Insco, and Jerry Gardner. Mr. Hines will always be known as a man of integrity, compassion, and a man who loved people, friends and family.
