Ray R. Newberry Sr., of Hampstead, NC, passed away suddenly Thursday morning January 17, 2013, at his home.

Ray was an active member of the Catholic Church including being a founding member of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church in Hampstead; a 4th degree, past Grand Knight and founding member of two chapters of the Knights of Columbus Catholic men's club in both Valparaiso Indiana at St. Paul's parish and in Hampstead at St. Jude's parish.

Ray had retired to Hampstead from Valparaiso, IN, in 1987 for the golf and warmer climate, after 36 years of service with Bethlehem Steel Corp.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher; wife, Desiree; brothers, Roy and Eugene and parents, Buster and Alice Newberry.

He is survived by his loving family; wife, Jean B.F. Newberry of Hampstead; son, Ray R. Newberry, Jr. of Tonka Bay, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Gary Jones of Hampstead; nephews, Roy Newberry and Eugene Newberry of Dundalk, MD; nieces, Karen Bilney of Ellicott City, MD, Michelle Rosenblatt of Baltimore, MD, and wonderful neighbors, Carol and Vic Malenga.

The family will receive visitors from 4-6pm, Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11am, Monday, January 21, 2013, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church.
