Barbara Byrnes Obituary
Barbara E. Byrnes, 81 of Wilmington passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2010. Barbara was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Egan of Tarrytown, New York. Two sisters, Dorothy Nelson and Rosemary Egan, preceded her in death.
Barbara married James Byrnes from Irvington on the Hudson on October 20, 1951. Her husband, James Byrnes survives her; also surviving are her five children and their spouses, James Byrnes, Sharon and William Spear, Shawn and Joseph Adamec, Kathleen and John Canero and Janet Byrnes. Barbara also has five grandchildren; Shelby Byrnes, Eric Spear, Lauren Spear, James Canero and Carly Canero.
Barbara worked at General Motors in Tarrytown, New York, and then had a career with the Mount Pleasant School District in Thornwood, New York, until she retired and moved to Wilmington in 1987.
She enjoyed golfing at The Cape; gardening; had a passion for all animals and the beach. Barbara's pride was in her family and she wanted the best for all her children.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 11, 2010 at 10 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church. Her final resting place will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, New York.
Barbara requested that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; Eastern North Carolina Chapter 3101 Industrial Drive, Suite 210, Raleigh, North Carolina 27609 in honor of her daughter, Shawn Adamec.

Dear Jim, Shawn, Janet, and the rest of the Byrnes family,
I cannot even begin to tell you how sorry my family and I am in the sudden passing of Barbara. In the few weeks that we were lucky enough to know Barbara we all felt a wonderful feeling of closeness to her. She was a remarkably strong lady who fought to the end. I miss her smiling face when I enter mom's room and I will think of her always whenever I watch a golf game. Our prayers are with you Barbara and we are so grateful that you are no longer in pain. May you rest in peace and watch over all of us.
