TABOR CITY -- Albert C. Gore, Sr., 84, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.
Born on September 12, 1928, in Columbus County, NC, he was the son of the late Daniel C. and Ruby Harrelson Gore.
Mr. Gore carried on a family tradition as a third generation U.S. Postal Mail Carrier for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and later in the U.S. Coast Guard. He received an Honorable Medical Discharge from the Coast Guard and was also a farmer in Columbus County for many years.
Mr. Gore is survived by two sons, Albert C. Gore, Jr. (Denise) and Trevor Gore; stepson, Maurice Joe Hawes (Rita); brother, Bobby Gore; sister, Veneway Blake; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4 at the home. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, January 5 at Olyphic Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 1333 Jefferson Street, Whiteville, NC 28472 or Olyphic Baptist Church, 905 N. Seven Creeks Hwy., Tabor City, NC 28463.
The family would like to thank the staff of Community Home Care & Hospice, Dr. Traylor, Kelly, Alisha and Amy, for their care and support, along with his daughter-in-law, Denise, his primary caregiver.
