Annie Maude "Anne" Burns, 76, of Atkinson passed gently from her earthly life on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 19, 1936, in Robeson County, the daughter of the late Curtius Compton Burns and Olga Corbett Burns. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William "Bill" C. Burns.

Anne graduated and received her teaching degree from Women's College, now UNC-Greensboro. She began her teaching career at Atkinson High School and retired from Clinton High School after teaching 34 years. She always believed teaching was her special mission in life, therefore it was not taken lightly. Anne challenged and encouraged her students to fulfill their potential.
