BESSIE MAE BATTS

Bessie Mae Batts, of Surf City, NC, died Sunday, March 27, 2011.

She was born June 6, 1930, in Brunswick County, NC, daughter of the late Sigley Robbins Sr. and Mamie Autry Robbins and was preceded in death by her husband James Bryan (J.B.) Batts Sr.

Mrs. Batts was a member of Surf City Baptist Church, a member of the Young at Heart Group, involved with Matthew 25 Center in Burgaw, Surf City Town Council member, charter member of the Surf City Fire Department and founder of Coastal Recreation.

Surviving are her sons, James Bryan Batts Jr., daughter in law Wanda Lee, Alvin Batts and wife Karen, Kenneth Batts and wife Diane and Glenn Batts and wife Katheryn all of Surf City, grandchildren; Jennifer Grabek, Stephanie Carell, Bryan Batts, Rhonda Lewis, Kenneth Batts Jr., Mindy Batts, Kraig Batts, Renee Parr and Jacob Parr, sister, Linnie Little, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Wanda Lee.

A funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday March 30, 2011, at Surf City Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm Wednesday at Surf City Baptist Church.
