CAROL BURNETT "BURNIE" FREAS, JR. Carol Burnett "Burnie" Freas, Jr., 69, of Hampstead, died November 5, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, surrounded by his family. Burnie was born October 14, 1949, in Newton, NJ, to the late Carol B. Freas, Sr. and Florence Klimas Freas. In the earlier years of his life Burnie lived in Newton, NJ, many years in Frankford, NJ, and the past twelve years in North Carolina. He attended Alfred State College in Alfred. NY. Burnie worked for Limestone Products in Sparta, NJ for 39 years and was also the owner of Freas Nurseries in Frankford, NJ. He then worked for Lee Lime in MA for two years and retired from Martin Marietta Materials in Castle Hayne, NC after six years of service. While in NJ, he was a member of the Branchville Businessmen's Association and the NJ Tree Farmers Association. He had a love for gardening, working at his Christmas tree farm, woodworking, creating beautiful stained glass pieces, spending time at the beach, fishing, and traveling with his RV. Burnie was a man of many interests, but his favorite was enjoying life with his wife and children and being an advocate for the developmentally disabled. He asked that everyone take an interest and get involved to better the lives of these very special people. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Freas. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Freas; stepsons, Arthur Kleber and Daniel Kleber; sisters, Marcia Esche (Ty) and Karin Gapper (Joseph) and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3pm, Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel.
