CAROL ROYSTER AUGUSTUS Well noted Photographer Carol Royster Augustus, departed this life at the age of 92 late Friday, November 15th. Augustus was the owner and photographer of the historic Vanderbilt Studio in Wilm-ington, NC. Augustus has been noted as one of the first black female photographers here in NC, whose reputation landed her in the national publication "Viewfinders: Black Women Photographers" by Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe. Which was a collection of diverse photographs from black female photographers from the mid-1800's. Augustus was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy Augustus and is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Augustus Wyatt (Thomas) of Charlotte, NC, her brother, Walter Royster (Sheila) of Washington, DC, three granddaughters, three great grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Davis Funeral Home, Wilmington, NC. A Home going celebration will be held November 22nd at Gregory Congregational United Church of Christ, Wilmington, NC. The Visitation at 11:00 am with the funeral service at 12 pm. Burial in Greenlawn Mem. Wilmington.
