CARSON MITCHELL BENSON Carson (Buddy) Mitchell Benson (93) of 704 Latimer Dr. died Friday in his sleep at home. He was born in Wilmington Oct 23 1920, the son of the late Carson M Benson and Rosie Benson. Carson graduated from NHHS in 1938 and soon took a job as a switchman at the Atlantic Coastline Railroad. He served a tour of duty in the United States Army in Korea, and returned to the Railroad until his retirement in 1985. He served many years as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen (continuous member for 72 yrs). Buddy was a charter member of Devon Park Methodist Church, he was also a long standing member of Elks Lodge 532, American Legion Post #10, and VFW Post 2573. He was preceded in death by his wife Clara Belle Benson. Surviving are his son Carson M. Benson Jr, his daughter in law, La Cinda Sue Benson, two grandsons, Carson Alexander Benson, and Cary Benson, and one Granddaughter, Kathryn Lee Benson of Charlotte, N.C. Grave side services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Friday December 6th 2013 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
