CHARLES FULLWOOD BELL Charles Fullwood Bell of Wilmington died peacefully October 5th after a long illness. Born November 9, 1919 in Wilmington, Charles was the son of Hugh Edwin Bell and Gladys Beale Bell and was preceded in death by one brother, Hugh E. Bell, Jr. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Vivian (VeeVee) Allen Bell of Wilmington; son Charles F. Bell Jr. and wife Linda of Alpharetta, GA; son Allen Drew Bell of Jacksonville, Fl; and daughter Allison Lynn Bell of Nellysford, VA. Charles had four grandchildren, Lisa Bell Atkinson of Jacksonville, Fl, and Douglas Allen Bell and wife Zuleyka of Panama, Marla Leigh Moore of Seattle, Washington, John Stevenson and wife Karey of Scottsdale, Arizona. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Dylan Gall, Drew Atkinson, Savannah and Sienna Stevenson, and his niece, Sybil Bell of Georgetown, South Carolina. Charles graduated from New Hanover High School in the class of 1936. During World War II, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Force and saw duty in the Pacific Theater. After the war he joined the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (presently the CSX), and retired on December 1, 1984 after 45 years of service in Wilmington, Richmond, VA, and Jacksonville, Fl. When he retired he held the position of General Manager, Freight Claims Service. During his railroad career he was very active in the Freight Claims and Damage Prevention Division of the Association of American Railroads, having served on various committees, including the General Committee, and as Chairman in 1983. He was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed meeting with "the lunch bunch" at Jeanette's after church: E.L. and Betty Lou Mathews, Jim Liberman and Nancy Prichette. Special friends: Elizabeth LeGwin, Kathy Kristiansen, Jean LeGwin and Peg Latham. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday October 9, 2013 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday October 10, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. A special thank you to Susan Lester, Laverna Shulman and Cindy Carney with Senior Helpers for their loving care and support.
