DANIEL MCENTIRE GOLD Daniel McEntire Gold - known by "Mac" to his friends and family - of Wilmington, N.C., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at home with his family. Mac was 87 years old. The son of Comann Miller Gold and Clara Daniel Gold and brother of Comann Daniel Gold, Mac was born on Dec. 5, 1926 in Wilson, N.C. Mac spent the first 18 years of his life in Wilson. He attended Charles L. Coon High School until he was drafted into World War II. During World War II, Mac served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. During his service, Mac was stationed off the coasts of China and Japan. Upon his return from the war, Mac graduated from N.C. State University in 1950 where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Textiles. His degree served him well. Mac went on to be a successful entrepreneur who founded Deep River Dyeing Company in Randleman, N.C. At Deep River Dyeing Company, he served as president for 32 years until he retired in 2004. During his career, Mac developed many fabrics, including some that are still used today in bridalwear. In his spare time, Mac loved to golf. His love for the sport eventually earned him a hole-in-one - and a new car - at a charity golf tournament at Greensboro's Cardinal Country Club. Mac also enjoyed the beach and spent many summers on Wrightsville Beach and Figure 8 Island. Each summer, Mac gathered his family for the annual Fourth of July parade at Figure 8 Island and hosted a cook out. In his final resting place, Mac will be surrounded by his mother Clara, father Comann, grandmother Ida Daniel, and grandfather A.N. Daniel in Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson, N.C. There, his family will hold a graveside service in Mac's honor. After the service, Mac's family will celebrate his life with a family lunch at Parker's Barbeque - one of Mac's favorite places. Mac is survived by his wife Tanya Salyuk Gold, his daughters Ruth Daniel Gold Beck, Martha McEntire Gold, and Clara McIntire Gold of Wilmington, N.C., and his son, Alexander Stott Gold and daughter-in-law Darci Scott Gold of Greensboro, N.C. Mac is also survived by his grandchildren, Alexandra Gold DiFeliceantonio of New Haven, Conn., Amanda Gold Moore of Raleigh, N.C., and Alexander Scott Gold of Vail, Colo., as well as other loving family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be given to N.C. State University in his name. Condolences to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com Andrews Market Street Chapel
