GEORGE BRAXTON HARDEE The ballgame is over. It was a tough one, but he lost the game. George Braxton "Brack" Hardee lost his 2 1/2 year battle with brain cancer June 29, 2013. He was at home, surrounded by his family, just as he wanted it to be. Brack was born in Wilmington on July 2, 1969, to the late George D. "Buck" and Mitzi Watson Hardee. As a child he was always at the ball field, so it was only right that he became a baseball coach and instructor. He touched so many young lives through the years, most recently at Elev8 Sports Institute (formerly Bucky Dent Baseball School), in Delray Beach, FL. During his career, he coached at his alma mater, NHHS; Wilmington Post 10; Jupiter HS, in Jupiter, FL; and on numerous travel ball teams both in NC and FL. Brack leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life, his soul mate, his wife, Sarah Morris Hardee. He met Sarah through baseball and she shared his love of the game. He had 2 children, the joys of his life - Hunter (his best buddy) and Ella (his princess). He also leaves behind his sisters, Dawn Hardee McGuire, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Susan Hardee, of Wilmington; his in-laws, Danny and Sandy Morris, of Castle Hayne; his brother-in-law, Hamer Morris II and his wife, Kim, of Georgetown SC; his nieces and nephews- Ruth Ann, Kaylan, and Hamer Morris III, all of Georgetown, SC; Joe McGuire and Caitlin Pecora and their daughter, Sawyer Ann, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Hardee Rickenbacker, of Wilmington; and his special nephews, Dylan Kozma and Aaron Owenby, of Georgetown, SC; John McGuire and his family of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Brack was always a family man and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them and his lifelong friends, especially Derek Manning, Troy McConchie and Moose Vezina. He was such a caring hands on daddy, never missing an opportunity to play a game, throw a baseball, dress a Barbie, or dry a tear. He will be greatly missed by so many. The family will receive friends at their home at 110 Plumtree Lane, Castle Hayne. A celebration of life will be held 4 pm Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Pine Valley United Methodist Church Christian Life Center, 3788 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 289403. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established to help with his mounting medical expenses and to benefit the children. The information can be found at, under the name Benefiting Brack Hardee. You can also mail donations directly to Brack Hardee Cancer Fund, c/o Sandra Morris, 307 Mary Avenue, Castle Hayne, NC 28429. Sarah would like to thank the caring nurses at Lower Cape Fear Life Care and Hospice Center, especially Deb Gibson. She would also like to give special thanks to: Jennifer and Chris Hardee; Joey Hardee and the men from GE and the NC Baptist Men's Assoc; and the children's god mother, Julia Davis. The family would like to thank all those wonderful individuals who have generously donated to the Benefiting for Brack Hardee Fund and who have fed us every day during these last few weeks. Without all of you, this time would have been even more difficult. Please share memories and condolences with the family at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington, NC 28403 910.791.9099
